The Shadow Cats Program is a professional development and job shadowing program for all EBCI high school students between the ages of 14-18 years old. This program will allow high school students to secure a job shadowing position at the location of their choice at Western Carolina University and within the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians systems.

About the Program

The participants must complete and commit to attending the program orientation and skill building workshop followed by a two-week job shadowing placement program. You'll learn professional skills such as shaking hands appropriately, elevator speeches, public speaking, and customer service skills before entering the job site.

Upon completion of the program the mentor and participant will complete a final discussion of areas of excellence and areas of improvement. There is no cost for the program and transportation will be provided to all participants through the Cherokee Center.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians with proof of enrollment.
  • Applicant must also be between the ages of 14 years old and 18 years old and enrolled in a high school. 
  • Applicants must have parent permission to participate in the program.
  • Applicant must commit to a two-week program for completion.
