The Learning Live! Matinee Series offers an opportunity to experience engaging and educational performances all year!

Event Schedule:
Pilobolus: The Big Five-Oh! September 29, 2022, Thursday at 11:00am
The world-renown modern dance company that has performed at events ranging from the Oscars and the Olympics and has appeared on television, in movies, and in advertisements will take the stage at the Bardo Arts Center Performance Hall in Cullowhee, NC. Pilobolus will perform their newest show, The Big Five-OH! which celebrates their 50th year in existence, promoting radical creativity and boundary-pushing.

Mariachi Sol De México® de José Hernández November 10, 2022, Thursday at 10:00am
A Grammy-nominated band and is led by José Hernandez. A proud fifth-generation Mariachi musician, Maestro Hernàndez is an internationally recognized musician, composer, and educator. He has recorded with respected names in the industry, including Selena, Vincente Fernandez, Luis Miguel, Bryan Adams, and the Beach Boys.

The Nutcracker featuring The Ballet Conservatory of Asheville January 9, 2022, Friday at 10:00am
Founded in 1964, the Asheville Conservatory Ballet will again visit the campus of Western Carolina University to perform two performances of the holiday favorite ballet, The Nutcracker. Visit Bardo Arts Center and see young Marie befriend a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King.

Spring 2023 Schedule 

From The Hood to Ivy League January 27, 2023, Friday at 11:00am
A one-woman show by WCU’s Assistant Professor of Music (Voice), Dr. Tiffany Jackson. Dr. Jackson will bring to life her story with an autobiographical, multimedia mix of story and song based on three key pillars in her life – gift, passion, and purpose. She will share her story of how a young girl born into the projects was elevated to a powerful position where she inspires other young people through her work.

Imani Winds Black and Brown February 24, 2023, Friday at 10:00am
Experience Imani Winds, the Grammy-nominated wind quintet recently placed in the classical music section of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. The ensemble’s playlist embraces traditional chamber music repertoire. As a 21st-century group, Imani Winds is devoutly committed to expanding the wind quintet repertoire by commissioning music from new voices that reflect historical events and the times in which we currently live in.

The Second City: Improv All-Stars March 23, 2023, Thursday 10:00am (HIGH SCHOOL)
Brought to you by the comedy group with alumni like Steve Carrell, Tina Fey, Bill Murray, Jordan Peele, Chris Farley, and more, The Second City presents: Swipes Right: An incomplete guide to the Ultimate Date Night. Bring your significant other, or your fabulous single-self, to the NEW experience that will have you rolling with laughter.
